Jeremy Z. George, CPA
Jeremy George has served on Big Up Kidz' board of directors since June 2015, and as the chairperson since July 2016. Jeremy got involved with Big Up Kidz because he saw an opportunity to have an impact on an organization that is doing amazing work to help families in our community with the professional skill-set he has developed over many years. He currently works as an assurance partner in PwC's Asset & Wealth Management (AWM) practice, where he serves as an engagement partner and business adviser for alternative investment funds and SEC registered investment companies. He also has experience serving PwC's higher education clients, which maintain significant endowments that invest in a variety of strategies, and has national practice roles leading PwC's AWM staff learning and development program, overseeing its AWM-specific standardized audit programs, and in certain people and technology transformation initiatives. He grew up here in Southern California, and is currently live in Los Angeles with his wife and two daughters.
Finance Committee Chair
Jeremy co-leads the finance committee on the Big Up Kidz board of directors. Three years ago, he started working with the Big Up Kidz organization and the most fulfilling aspect of his participation on the organization’s board has been to contribute to and witness the impact that Big Up Kidz has on the students (and the community more broadly) through various enrichment programs and events. As a father of six young children, his involvement in Big Up Kidz has always been a result of his belief in the organization’s cause - providing youth and families with opportunities to learn, explore and grow in a safe structuring environment. He has over 15 years of experience providing assurance service to industrial products, information technology and retail and consumer companies in a variety of capabilities with PwC.
Fundraising Committee Chair
Anna Huckabay joined the Board of Big up Kidz earlier in 2018 and leads the Fundraising committee. Long interested in teaching and mentoring kids, for her first job in college she became an SAT instructor for The Princeton Review. She was tasked with helping to fulfill a government contract to teach SAT courses to high school juniors and seniors in underserved communities. From this job experience Anna realized that she wanted to continue to support, in any way she could, underserved eligible students in their efforts to attend a four-year college. Today, as part of the Big Up Kidz organization, she is excited to be part of an organization that focuses on empowering younger kids to be enthusiastic about high performance in school with the hope that they will someday also have the opportunity to go to a four year college and thrive.
Anna has worked in the accounting profession for 15 years. For the past four years she has been at the firm of PwC, LLP, where she is currently Marketing Director. Anna oversees a team of six managers throughout the western United States, with responsibility for marketing strategy and execution for the West Region tax practice. She has a Bachelor of Science from the University of California, Riverside and an MBA from the UCLA Anderson School of Management. Anna grew up in Lusaka, Zambia and Oceanside, California and is a proud Zambian-American.
Gaya Kuharajan, a Marketing and Sales Manager at PwC, joined the Big Up Kidz organization in early 2018. The combination of community outreach and children’s education drew her to the organization. In 1990, at the age of 7, her family migrated to the United States from a war-torn country, Sri Lanka, to Downtown Los Angeles. Her parents were working full-time jobs and afterschool organizations, like Big Up Kidz, helped her to stay focused and safe. 30 years later, she is able to help drive the growth through her marketing experience and her strong belief in the Big Up Kidz values. She has over 13 years of experience working for professional-service organization specializing in Marketing. She has been with PwC for the last 5 years, where she manages a portfolio of larger Healthcare clients in Los Angeles, Arizona and Colorado. She has a Bachelor of Arts, Sociology Studies- Concentration on Marketing from the University of California, Riverside.
A friend told Harvey a long time ago excuses are bricks to build a house of failure and anything is possible if you put your mind to it, words he lives by to this day. As a parent and single father of a child that graduated from the Big Up Kidz program, Harvey Holt is proud to say he has served on the board of directors since 2016. Harvey Holt was raised in the City of Compton, California and attended Foster elementary school where 90% of the Big Up Kidz student also attend. He later attended Pius 10 High School, a private school in Downey, California where he was an all-star athlete and received his diploma with honors. Harvey was chosen to play in the Hawaii High school all-star Super Bowl where he was flown to Hawaii to showcase his Athletic talent along with 50 other high school all stars from different high schools in California. He continued his education at Cal State University of Northridge where he received a scholarship and pursued his major in physical therapy and sports medicine. Two years into his college career Harvey had an injury sidelining him from participating in college athletics. He later transferred to the University of Southern California in 1994. In 1995 Harvey decided he needed to enter the workforce. Harvey joined his local carpenters union where he worked his way up from an apprentice to journeymen in four short years. Soon after Harvey was running crews of 40 man and became one of the youngest African American Formans to date. Harvey always knew education was the key to success so he went back to school after having a family and attended Charles Drew University of Medicine and Science where he earned a certificate in counseling psychology. He later worked as a counselor auditor and supervisor of over 150 duly diagnosed clients within the Watt Health Foundation in the city of Los Angeles. Harvey enjoyed helping people in need to live to their full potential no matter their present situation. After serving several years as a co-director Harvey felt it was time to pursue his true passion and ventured into real estate. Just after four years as a real estate agent Harvey became a franchise owner of the real estate company where he works to this day. In his free time Harvey is a motivational speaker and has won several awards as a ToastMaster. In 2016 Harvey won humorous ToastMaster of the year for Los Angeles district 1.
